To Raffe – Israel can do no wrong can it Raffe?

Every action is justified isn’t it?

Anyone who protests against Israel is siding with murderers, with terrorists, aren’t they?

How “primarily with paintball guns” = 19 dead = pretty deadly paintball guns, don’t you think?

Oh no that’s right – those nasty activists had clubs, guns and knives – did they kill each other then? Of course they did! Just to make the Israelis look bad.

And why is piracy off Somalia any different to what happened here, in international waters, after days of Israel forces threatening an aid flotilla?

And of course anyone who thinks Israel or any of its actions are less than perfect – well they’re just anti-Semitic, aren’t they?

And now I’m waiting for a long list from you on everyone else’s aggression, everyone else’s anti-Semitism, everyone else’s war crimes – because you hope that’ll just deflect from the reality at hand.

The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has already called for Israel to launch an inquiry into the incident, and failing that, has called on the UN to do so.

I don’t see this as Australia siding with Hezbollah or anyone else – whether or not Israel was legally “in the clear” in boarding, the operation seemed poorly coordinated to the point where the outcome caused significant casualties on a boat filled with foreign civilians and media.

That recognised, international media have also been detained by Israel is not a good sign. There are also (unconfirmed) rumours that their equipment has been confiscated with the intention of destroying footage, notes, etc.

As someone who was there watching that protest in Sydney Town Hall last night I saw Hezbollah flags, flags of an internationally recognised terror group, and I heard members of the crowd shouting ‘death to the Jews’. I would be ashamed if the Australian government sided with these murderers. The article in question did not mention the fact that Israeli soldiers were legally allowed to board the vessel under the 1994 San Remo Convention and boarded armed primarily with paintball guns.

They were mauled and almost ripped limb from limb but still refused to unholster their pistols until they came under fire from the protestors.
