I recently couchsurfed for the first time and it is safe to say I will never coouchsurf again. The guy I stayed with had 100% reviews so I thought I would be ok. He took me to what I can only describe as a sex club and kept coming onto me. I contacted a friend to get me somewhere to aty whilst I went for a walk to get away from him and when I went back he came onto me again, when I sid no he asked me what was wrong and if I was married. I have never been so petrified in my life and will never put myself into this position again and trust me this write up is nice in comparison to what went on!

Hi Lauren,

I hadn't couch surfed before this trip, I was told by a friend a few months before I left. I was a little nervous but pretty confident it was going to be alright, and my first was a great experience too and looking back on it definitely won me over.

Regarding the article Jack posted, there's a lot I didn't know about, and some I did. I do agree with a lot of the criticisms the author has but they're largely criticisms of the people who run the Couchsurfing website, and cases of individual dissatisfaction. For me, and for everyone I met and stayed with who was somehow affiliated with the website, nothing raised in the article was a problem or even an issue, the Couchsurfing website enabled us to meet, have a good time and a be a part of an experience we preferred over staying in hostels.

Interesting link Jack. Illustrates quite clearly that we shouldn't take everything at face value and whilst it might look good, be careful and alert.
