In Sydney’s inner city, employers have started to ask for a bond on employment to their workers. Much like rental bonds for apartments, the standard bond is of two weeks wages which is taken off their first pay. Employees find themselves in a situation where if they do not comply, their chances to get a job are reduced. Matt Carr, Mun-Han Choi and Olivier Pollet report.
